Church Committees

These committees perform important work for Christ Spry and the community. Thanks to the hard work of the committee members, our mission continues to grow and we continue to better serve our community, our world, and ourselves.

The Evangelism Committee is responsible for the Evangelism (Outreach) Programs of the congregation. The committee provides for the education of the congregation about opportunities for evangelism. It is responsible for publicity in the media, such as advertising and announcements in the local newspaper's "community calendar". The Evangelism Committee plans outreach to the unchurched and works with the pastor to maintain a prospective membership file. The committee recruits and trains members for visiting teams. It trains and recruits greeters. Greeters provide a vital service by welcoming both regular members and visitors when they attend worship. The committee evaluates the Evangelism program annually and develops programs for the future.  Contact Al Myers (717-741-2825) if you are interested in serving on this committee.

Fellowship provides the backbone for the nourishment of God's people at Christ Spry.  This committee creates and manages events that provide opportunities for church members and friends to socialize and to get to know each other both within and outside the church. Fellowship provides opportunities and occasions for the members of the church to gather in order to deepen the bonds that unite them as sisters and brothers in Christ.

Members of this committee work together as a team to plan, manage, and promote activities that appeal to the broadest cross section of the congregation.  Each year this committee looks for new ways to encourage people to come together and learn about each other as well as to have fun.  Fellowship meets a couple times a year to brainstorm and decide which activities have been the most successful and what future activities will be of interest to the congregation.  Volunteers that help with this committee's activities find great satisfaction in working together and making new friends.  Contact Jeanne Hineline (717-747-8905) if you are interested in serving on this committee.

The committee prepares the yearly budget for presentation to the council and subsequently the congregation. The committee is responsible for ensuring the church's bills are paid and that benevolence monies are forwarded to the proper places. It also provides for annual audits of the treasurer's and financial secretary's accounts.  Finance Meetings - 7:00 PM, Third Monday of each month.  Contact Dean Henry (717-854-9840) if you are interested in serving on this committee.

It is the responsibility of the Worship and Music Committee to see that worship services are conducted regularly and in accordance with the liturgy of the ELCA. The committee oversees recruitment and training of all who assist in worship services, such as ushers, acolytes, lectors, and communion assistants. This committee accomplishes its responsibilities through regular meetings where all aspects of our worship services are discussed, planned, and evaluated.  Worship is the single most important thing we do as Christians. Christ Lutheran has several worship opportunities available. We are also blessed to have several choirs and a contemporary worship team to add variety and to enrich our worship life.

The Property Committee is responsible for the maintenance and protection of all the property of the congregation. The committee makes sure all physical structures are clean, in good repair and in working order. The Social Ministry Committee spearheads the congregation's response to the ill, aged, underprivileged, and in general, all persons in need. In doing so, the committee strives to include as many members of the congregation as possible in this response. The committee is also responsible for making known to the church council any local social conditions in which the church may bring cleansing, comfort, and healing to people or situations where Christian love and justice are needed.  Care Ministries include: Altar Flowers, Bereavement Ministry, Card Ministry, College Student Stress Boxes, Convalescent Meals Ministry, Food Pantry, Fellowship, Funeral Dinners , Helping Hands, Red Cross Community Disaster Relief, Shut-in Ministry, Visitation for shut-ins, and World Hunger Advocacy.

The Mutual Ministry Committee is made up of three to six members and the Pastor. The Mutual Ministry Committee's role is to address the concerns of the pastor, the pastor's family, staff members, and the congregation. Should conflicts arise, the committee is responsible for intercession with the pastor and congregation. They also bring concerns of the pastor before council and recommend a course of action needed toward conflict resolution.

The Stewardship Committee is responsible for leading congregational members toward higher levels of proportionate giving as well as assisting members to use their time and talent for the Lord's Work. It is also responsible for informing the congregation of local, national, and world-wide ministries that are supported by the church. Each fall, the committee conducts an "Every Member Response" campaign. Included in this campaign is the Time/Talent/Treasure survey. Every adult member receives a form which affords them the opportunity in writing to respond to God's love. Through the EMR survey members are offering not only their financial pledge, but also their pledge of service and involvement to the church. This year, a youth Time and Talent form will be available for members in 3rd - 9th grade.

The Christian Education Committee includes the Sunday School superintendent. The Christian Education Committee provides the congregation with opportunities and resources for study to grow their Christian faith and enrich their lives through learning experiences. They recruit and train teachers for the Sunday School and other Christian Education activities. They recommend candidates for Sunday School superintendent and assistant superintendent to the Congregation Council.  The committee oversees Sunday Church School, Catechism, Bible studies, Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO), and Vacation Bible School.  The committee organizes and present special workshops and seminars throughout the year for the education of all its members.  The committee is responsible for calling members of the congregation to ministry and leadership in these areas of Christian Education.  The committee also evaluates the Christian Education program on a regular basis and recommends changes if required.

The Endowment Committee oversees donations, gifts, and contributions of cash, assets or property to be placed in the Endowment Funds established for the purposes described in the endowment document. Distributions are to be made with particular emphasis on extending the life and mission of the church which includes but is not limited to: missions, outreach, education, and charitable work of Christ Spry Lutheran Church and it's environs. The committee consists of two council members plus three persons elected annually by the congregation.  The elected term of service is 3 years. One new member is elected each year in order to provide a smooth transition and maintain a consistent year to year overlap of experienced member representation. Some knowledge of financial matters is needed  for members of this committee.  Contact Doug Boyer (717-741-4851) if you are interested in serving on this committee.
